New cargo light. 120W of LED's.

Post by Rizzo »

FIRST! BIG THANK YOU TO MY BUDDY Dan, A.K.A Captain_Slow!

He stuck with me all day to get this done and done right. He is also a Soldering Samurai. Without his help I would not have this done to this level.

I decided I needed more light in the back. I have a little trouble backing up, which is weird since I had a Crown Vic with 5% limo tint for 5 years.

So I bought this..

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009HV ... d_i=507846

I did not buy from that seller. I got mine open box for $90 off eBay.

I used the cargo light circuit to power it. After examining the 16 gauge wiring and with a very good engineer buddy of mine we decided to use both B+ or hot wires to power it and tie both grounds from the cargo light, I wired the unit into that circuit. So with that button push I can turn it on.

Mounting solution. All the hardware is stainless steel. The brackets are aluminum. They're from a truck stop. They're really for mounting a CB antenna to your mirror. $10.00 each :D

Passing thru the Activity light route. THIS SUCKED! The push pins we all know .... and lose :( sucked.. In the end I just loosed the middle trim piece by removing the 4 Torx screws up top, then pulled it out some to release 3 friction pins. This gave me wiggle room, then I trimmed the trim piece to allow wiring to fit through.

I also wrapped the basket at clamp point with Super 88 Electric tape for a little grip and corrosion thru friction prevention.

The wiring is soldered, liquid brush on electric tape, heat shrink tubed and then wrapped in Super 88 again.

Here is what I see from in cabin. I tried to take a picture with the Reverse lights only and the camera wouldn't even pick it up through the factory tint LOL!

Activity light harness and dummy plug. It's taped to the CHMSL and Cargo light harness from factory.

The plug itself.

Here is the unit.

The outer most LEDs, the four 2x2 at each end are Flood, The inner LEDs 16 2x2 are spot. You can see a difference when you look closely at their reflectors in real life.

"I had a little trouble backing up...so I bought this." When I scrolled down to the final photo, I couldn't restrain my smile. I will use my cargo light on occasion when backing up with a wall behind me and have often wished it were a little brighter. Problem solved ; ) Well done. Wall of light!

LOL!

I disconnected the stock cargo light. Due to the flood reflectors at each end I can still see right down into my truck box with the lid open.
