Almost made it...

Post by aberg12012 »

Had my first "slide in" ever in my life today. I had to laugh when the tow truck pulled me a whopping 4 feet, and I drove away. (After paying him, of coarse.) And yea, I didn't blank out my liscense plate. It's simply to appropriate for the photo.

Thats awesome, I wish we got snow like that here in VA. I miss WI the most for the snow. Where you from in WI? I grew up in the Fox Cities/Appleton area. Like Your color combo too btw!!!

I wonder if a nice set of snow tires could have helped you there???!!! Oh and Welcome to ScoobyTruck!!!

Funny you ask. I actually live in Neenah. The worst part about the above incident was the fact that I work at the Sheriff's Dept in Oshkosh, as a 911 dispatcher. And I was on my way to work, and took "the scenic route" because I had extra time. THAT was an embarrassing phone call!

As for snow tires... no. Then I would be going 80 when I hit the ditch, instead of 40. (Rolling eyes at myself and my tendency to push the limits on public roads.)

What happened was it was a nice, gentle curve that I've taken many times. Of coarse, I always have to try and push it a little harder. Well I went late on the brakes, as usual. A bit too late this time. Let off the brakes knowing I have to at least try to make it. The car drifts perfectly the whole corner, with the back out ever so slightly. Then right as it's time to start exiting the curve, the front tires started plowing. I was already too close to the ditch so I straightend out the wheels and just hit the gas. The snow just built up too much towards the end, and I didn't quite make it out.

I really had to laugh, as it was an easy lesson. One I badly needed. I'm extremely grateful I didn't have to learn the way I usually do...

I notice your liscense plate says "Truck"! WI considers our Baja as trucks!?! Thats awesome, I always call mine a truck, so im glad my home state agrees with me. here in virginia, it says sedan on my registration :(

neenah!! Wow thats pretty awesome, my family moved to neenah right when i moved down south here, but have since relocated back to Appleton. I spent most of my highschool time tooling around neenah. Man I miss WI!!!!

Nice work, 911dispatch! :)

Re: registration. IIRC, Idaho considers the Baja a truck as well. I guess I'll have to look...

Yea, actually no. WI allows regular auto plates for anything under so many pounds (not sure of the exact number) and with 50% or more of the vehicle designed for passenger seating.

Anotherwords, I should have car plates, not truck. But when I bought the car, my loan officer did the paperwerwork and thought it needed light truck plates. Seeing as they cost the same to register and renew, I didn't bother making her change the paperwork.

On a related note, I think I'm ready for spring. I've had my fun. Now it's time for the snow to melt.
