Concerns about buying an '06?

Post by txbaja »

Well, I test drove an '06 Turbo last week, and fell in love with the performance. I'm just waiting for a couple items on my credit report to clear up so I can get a better deal on financing, but I have a couple concerns. Does it bother anyone else that they will be discontinuing the Baja? I mean, what happens five years from now, when things start to go bad? Where will I find parts? What about resale value? Who's going to want to buy a discontinued vehicle (heck, Subaru is having trouble selling them brand new!)? What do y'all think?

My solution... dont sell it (for the resale value)

For parts.... most legacy parts will work on the vehicle.... so mechanical stuff shouldnt be hard to fix... just body panels will be harder to get.

i don't plan on selling my baja any time in the foreseeable future so i'm not really worried. i see it becoming one of those cult objects like the brat eventually did. :)

I wouldn't worry about parts either. Even though there aren't too many around, Suby will have parts for a long time. I don't plan on getting rid of mine soon either. I had my old Cherokee for 9 1/2 years, so this Baja should be around at least that long, maybe longer. So by the time I am ready to switch it out, it won't be worth crap anyways. Mike

Well, sorry to say, but I decided not to go with the Baja after all. It was a tough decision, and I certainly appreciate all the input I got from this forum, but I finally concluded that I need more of a truck, and less of a car. I still think I'm getting a good blend of both though, as I've decided to go with the Tacoma X-Runner. For actually less than what I'd pay for a Turbo Baja, I'm getting as good performance and handling, yet the ability to haul a bit more. Like I said though, it was tough, but the fact that Subaru did not seem to want to offer much of an incentive to buy, and the fact that they are going out of production, made the decision a bit easier.
I've enjoyed the short time here, and I wish all of you God's blessings.
