HELP! POWER STEERING LEAK! LINE MELTED ON EXHAUST?
So, basically I've got a nasty power steering leak, I believe my pressure line. But I'm not sure of the replacement parts... I marked in red (as best as I could lol) where the leak is. Could someone identify/confirm and possiblypost a link to the correct line I need? Will I need to replace both lines? Thanks in advance everyone!

I'm not an expert in this field, but I did a little digging & found this on the outback forums:
http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/66- ... ering.html
The poster has/had a 2000 forester so the parts should be the same as an '03-06 Baja Sport, & there's a common issue with leaks in the power steering racks. Hope this helps!

For finding out part numbers, parts.subaru.com is the first place I go:
http://parts.subaru.com/a/Subaru_2003_B ... 46-01.html
All of the part numbers in the diagram are listed below, or you can click on the [+] button next to each part in the diagram to jump to it in the list.

Thanks guys! If I'm not mistaken I think it's actually the return line specifically that got roasted. I ended up finding this same diagram actually and called the local subie dealer to inquire about it.Turns out it comes as an "assembly" and neither of the two lines can be purchased seperately. So I looked online and found a few, mostly on eBay, but only the line coming from the pump itself. Next i searched local junk yards for a similar subie model with a used line. no wrecked subies to find (no surprise in ETX

I suggest wrapping them in the proper size heat sleeve so that they last! https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hsp- ... hgodX0wFlg

The new lines came with fresh heat sleeves luckily. I almost thought to buy extra just to make sure it doesn't happen again, but the new lines had quite a bit more room away from the exhaust than the previous. I figure they just got bent somehow. The installation was fairly straightforward though. removing the main line nuts were the most difficult but I got it done in about 1.5 hrsAcro2pilot wrote:I suggest wrapping them in the proper size heat sleeve so that they last! https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hsp- ... hgodX0wFlg
