06 Baja Turbo Blows Up - Can I install Non-turbo engine?
The turbo let loose on my 2006 Baja Turbo, scattering metal particles into the engine and destroying it. I want to install a non-turbo 2.5 SOHC. Is this reasonable? What about the computer? I assume one has to revert to the normally aspirated computer. How about the wiring harness and sensors? Has anyone done this? Thanks!

It would be very difficult. You're better off getting a used block and turbo bits to go cheap or get a built block and a bigger turbo and going all out

How many miles were on your baja when the turbo let loose? Any mods or a tune? Unfortunately last night I think my turbo blew on my 2006 baja with automatic trans and 132,000 miles on it. I have owned it since 57,000 miles and have been religious about all my scheduled maintenance intervals. The 60 and 90,105000 mile and also just did the 120 and 127,000 mile maintenance schedules at the same time. Also for what it's worth since about late February- early March I noticed a rough idle and my mechanic and I couldn't find a solution and we tried lots, spark plugs, air idle control valve, there's aboutI'm not sure to what extent the damage is, if it's contained to just the turbo or worse. I'm on a road trip from WI to CO and in the middle of NE my baja lost all boost was struggling
to do 70-72 so I pulled off and have friends that are coming with a trailer to haul it back home and I'll continue on with my road trip which is imperative. I will assess the damage when I get back home. I'm curious what route you ended up going with? I don't know what I have instore for myself but I have also been thinking if "fit did hit the Shan" that I'm considering a slightly larger turbo maybe a VF39(is that the stock STI turbo?) or something safe and reliable to get a few more ponies out of her. I know that at some point in the modification process ie. Stage 2 a tune is a necessity and I'm not sure if I want a full turbo back, I know thats the best for a turbo with free flowing exhaust but I'm not the biggest fan of the loud noise inherently with the exhaust. Don't get me wrong, I truly do love the sound of the boxer engine and only dislike the tbe is because I don't want to be harassed by or always nervous of getting pulled over by the 5-0. before this happened I had been considering a larger tmic anyhow. The only thing aftermarket on my baja is a SPT Air Intake.
