HI from the VI

Post by millarg »

Evening all,

New to Scoobytruck and all things Subaru Baja.

Picked up a pretty ratty 2003 Silver Sport Auto with 69k miles yesterday and have spent today cleaning her up a little, think it'll gonna take at least another 1/2 dozen washes to get the grim out.

I've been passively looking for a Baja for some time, wanted an 06 Manual Turbo in dark blue, but there are only 5 or 6 Baja's on island, this one popped up on Craigslist last weekend.

Replacing a Nissan Frontier V6 Manual Crew Cab which is a thirsty beast, filled the Baja last night, hoping to be pleasantly surprised on next fill up.

Gonna have lots of questions (some will likely be pretty stupid, so apologies in advance), think I'm the 4th owner, last guy had no real idea about the vehicle or it's history.

1st question, is central locking distinct from remote entry? I have central locking, but no remote with vehicle (previous owner never had one). I went to keylessride.com and entered vin and got a suggested remote :o) $74 :o(

2. Should the vehicle have an alarm? When I lock from the drivers door central locking switch and close door, the turn signals flash and horn churps - but I bounced up and down in the bed and no alarm? was an alarm optional?

Thanks in advance

Should look at eBay for a remote for it, all Baja's came with one. Programming instructions are available on lots of Subaru sites. Alarms were not standard, so no surprise there. Is it a classic or sport? Pictures?

The alarm is awakened by sudden jolts and/or the doors opening. try jumping in the bed or closing the tailgate. You could also be in valet mode.

Sure fire test for the alarm as hinted at. Roll window down. Open door. Hit lock button. Close door. Horn should honk, lights blink. Reach in open window, unlock and open door. If alarm sounds then the module is installed.

Thanks Tom_88, did the alarm check (would have been the same with my Nissan Truck), so confirmed no alarm on the BAJA.

Re photos, got another week of cleaning and buffing before she will be photo ready :o)

Is there a security light flashing on your dash? if so, it's in valet mode. If you have the driver's door open, hold the unlock button down for either 3 or 5 seconds and it will come out of valet mode.

Welcome!

If you ever need any exhaust work done, I have friends on island.

We'll have to have a Baja meet, next time I head down to visit them. Unfortunately I probably won't have my Baja along...
