New noises

Post by klapool »

I have a 2006 Baja without a turbo.

Lately I have noticed when I come home and park in the garage and turn the engine off the engine is going "Tink Tink Tink Tink".

The last time heard this was when my dad let me drive his Chevelle and I would flip the air cleaner cover and hammer the gas. I beat that car to an inch of its life.

I would come home and the Tink Tink Tink sound was there. my dad said years later that the reason he let me buy my own car was to keep me out of his!

So now I am nearly 50 and I drive a Subaru Baja...

There isnt the power of a 350 4 barrel but its enough to pull a 16' tri hull or a trailer with 2 motorcycles.

I dont beat the car as I am the one on the hook for repairs and I absolutely LOVE my Baja. So I take care of it.

But now I hear this tink tink tink and I am wondering what it going on.

I also get a slight whiff of antifreeze when I pull into the garage but the overflow tank is half way full and there is nothing on the garage floor.

There is 85000 miles on the clock and it doesnt use any oil in 5000 miles.

Any ideas???

i always thought that was just the sound of the engine cooling down and the metal contracting

I agree, but I have never heard that noise before about 3 months ago.

I used to drive into the garage and shut it off and it was quiet.

It sounds like Ive been driving halfway up a big hill, stopping and then hammering it to burn the tires off.

I assure you I am not beating this thing!

I work in a power plant and the two top ways we know something is wrong with a piece of equipment is it sounds different than it normally does or it smells funny.

Maybe it is running hotter than before.

A whiff of antifreeze may support this, is the coolant level normal?

Is there any sign of antifreeze in the oil?

Any unusual drips out of the exhaust after it's warmed up?
