PLEASE help me with Turbo issues!!

Post by kc1228 »

My 2006 Baja just blew its 4th turbo. The factory turbo lasted about 80,000 miles. A rebuild found on line lasted 18,000 then blew, The rebuild company replaced this under warranty with another rebuilt unit. That one lasted about 6000 miles. I was afraid the rebuilds were using inferior bearding and seals so I had one rebuilt locally at a VERY good injection shop. This one lasted 2500 miles. UGHH! I have replaced the banjo bolts every time. I have made sure the oil injection line and coolant lines are clear. I have not been driving too crazy. I love my Baja but this is driving me nuts!! Any ideas??? This is not the easiest thing to replace. HELP!!

Is something getting thrown into the impeller? Are you running a factory tune?

I found this on a different scooby truck post

I have not checked it out yet but it seems a likely culprit. I wish I had found this a few Turbos ago!

the blades have always remained whole, nothing is getting into the turbo.

I can see by the posting I am not the only one who has gone through this. According to the link there was a service bulletin but I never heard a work about it. My dealer had no info on it either.

Ill keep you posted.

Thanks for the post. Just picked up a baja turbo and have always been curious as to why the failures are so common
