strange noise ?

Well here is a background....the car is 2006 Baja Turbo. 76K miles. We got the car as a rebuilt title. We have a issue that I wondered if anyone else has seen or had. when the car is driven hard in say 2nd gear before it fully boosts, if you give it full gas or on a sharp high powered corner it will make this certain noise. a mechanic friend of mine tried today to switch out the right drive shaft and the right baring ....but to no avail the sound is still there. its like a loud popping or more of a thudding coming from the driveshaft/transmission area......its pretty random as to when it happens but always under front end strain....fast cornering with hard acceleration or fully boost straight line (but not every time) this is why we are perplexed after the new baring it didn't do anything for over 45 miles and I even slid sideways around a roundabout to try and get it to do it but it didn't so I thought the baring had cured it ...but no on the next journey out it happened again.

Any feed back would be greatly received. as you can see from the picture the car had minimal damage....I have more pictures of the damage. nothing was badly bent and no bags deployed.

There are a lot of bushings under there that could produce a noise like you are describing...If you have access to a lift i would check all the Motor/Transmission mounts.....lower control arm bushings...And i work on allot of cars from body shops in my area, and I'd say 8 out of 10 times they leave something loose....just check every nut and bolt you can get a tool on and make sure its tight...

Great and thanks for the reply. I hope its something like the and not the differential, even when I drove the car hard today it was very hit and miss as to if we could get it to make the noise.....but then 2 miles later it does it under midrange acceleration

That was one of the things I want to do to our Baja, is fit the roof lights.

so when it does happen, does the car have to warm up to opertating temp, or can it happen right out of the starting blocks?

oh its straight away. its gradually got worse now. if I was to describe it now I would say its a loud creaky/cracking sound. its when you give it hard gas. at first it seemed to do it more on corners with hard gas(say pulling out from a stop sign to a left turn) but now its just in a straight line(even cruising at 60mph on the freeway the going to 80mph at full gas)...you can even feel it coming up through the car.

So will it reproduce the noise if the car is sitting still while in nuteral, emergency brake on, and pushing the gas. Or does the car have to be rolling.

hmmmm never tried that. I think the hand brake wouldn't make to much difference as you really do have to gas it to get it to do it.....might give it a try in the morning though...just to see if it amplifies the issue...I have been told it could be the reduction gear bearing

Try holding the brake and giving it gas, try it in drive and reverse...

well I just put it in drive and pushed the gas to the floor....no creaking sound, then tried it in reverse with the brakes pressed and no creaking sound....hmmmm ?!?!....the only sound I got was the brakes trying to hold the car....which is almost the same kinda sound I get when the issue happens
