Rear end lift only...

Post by sfeather11 »

Hey all, I've always liked how the old subarus (early 90's and prior) had a different stance than today's models. To me it always looked like the rear end was slightly higher than the front. I was thinking of setting my baja up to look that way. I've already made a set of 4-1" strut spacers to all 4 corners up. To lift the rear an inch more, could I also do a 1" body lift in the rear only? What exactly would be involved in doing a "body lift" in the rear only? Would I have to make a set of 2" strut spacers or could I get away with the 1" and lower the rear suspension elsewhere? I don't really want to increase the driveline can handle a 1" angle increase, but 2" is starting to be too much if I can avoid it. Can't say I'm really that familiar with how it all attaches to the body back there...

Thanks for any input...

What year is your Baja? It it's an 03, you can get struts and springs from an 04+ to get another inch.

Hey there,
It is an '03. Replaced all 4 springs and rear shocks 2-3 years ago with 05 model year. Definitely gave me the "missing" inch. Felt it put me on par with the '04, '05, & '06 model years. Now I just want to add another 1" or 2" more, mostly for looks (I rarely get a chance to go off road). I finally need new tires and will also be switching to the Grabber AT2s, so a little more lift will look that much cooler, eh?

Peace!

Yup, I ended up installing my home-made HDPE 1" spacer blocks at all 4 corners. This combined with the 05 spring conversion gives me a full 2" lift over the stock '03. It looks great with the new Grabbers too. I'd still like to add one more inch to the rear, and have contacted SJR Lift. He said he'd sell me a set of 2" spacers for the rear only for $150. Unfortunately I don't have the disposable cash to throw at it right now. Plus I think I'll be needing a front axle soon (from a torn boot I've had for 6 months, NOT from any extreme angles)

Nice! I keep hearing about SJR lifts... they seem to be pretty good. Not too much strain or anything. Post pics when you can!
