What motor is in the baja turbo?

Post by Kowclub173 »

I really like the 05-06 baja turbos. What I am confused on is what car they got the motor from. I want to add some performance parts but I can't find any baja specific parts. Thanks for the help

EJ-255

IIRC, it's the same-year STi's long block, but with different turbo, intake/exhaust, and of course ECU programming. So, it kind of depends upon what you want to do. Some Forester parts are best, some STi parts, some WRX parts, depending again upon exactly what year & parts you're interested in.

EJ255 is the correct engine code, however there are wide variations within that code.

The engine in the baja turbo is pretty much identical to the 2004/2005 Forester XT.

As mentioned these engines are the same longblock as the 2004/2005 STI with a smaller plastic intercooler, and a turbo very similar to the the EJ20 WRXs. The exhaust is different ( catted uppipe vs catless) and the inlet manifold is bare aluminum vs red.

I am in the same boat- new to the car, what works? I am considering tracking the car for fun days, DEs or AXs. Would be great, the slicks would fit nicely in the back for the ride to the track or event. No more trailer. So I most likely need to upboost the car and add what makes sense to do so. I already have coil over suspension.... Just a thought

I have been using 05 sti parts on my baja turbo 5 speed. It seems to be the closest match I can find.

I am curious now if my 05 or 08 sti seats will fit in the baja. The 08 seats are heated. Anyone running sti seats in their baja??
