oil QUANTITY question - not another oil thread!

This has got me baffled. I got my 06 Sport about a month ago, immediately changed the oil from the synth the PO had in it, used dino and WIX filter. Manual says 4.2 qts, I put in just over 4, maybe 4.1. Hot or cold, it is sticking high. Like well above the notch, not the hole, but the notch. A trusted mechanic friend, very very experienced, said strike a new mark on the stick, don't consider dropping oil. He said use the book quantity and don't trust the stick. I have quadruple verified that I didn't pour in more than about 4.1 qts. Oil that came out was j u s t under 4, and I let it drain for 30 mins. I have verified with the dealer that there are two sticks, one turbo, one non. He couldn't say what the difference was, just that there are two part numbers. Anybody have any experience like this, and what would your next course of action be? Thank you very much.
