I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 that I bought new and never grew to love. Sure, it was reliable, but everything about it, except the engine, screamed "Cheap Fragile Toy" and it has no character. Besides, it gets mileage in the 17-18 range which is rather poor when even an F150 can do that or better.
What I really wanted was a rugged SMALL truck, like the previous generation Tacomas or Nissans or Mazda designed Rangers. I had two Rangers and they were actually pretty rugged but proved themselves unreliable (not to mention the ancient technology used bumper to bumper).
So the Baja seemed to fit the bill and we love my wife's 2008 Impreza. It was a bummer discovering that Bajas were no longer in production so I planned to clean up and sell the Tacoma and search for a used one. I figured it would take a few weeks or months to find a really nice one so I called the guy who sold us our Impreza to put the word out. He happened to know of a 2003 Baja for sale two hours from home that had only 40k miles. Saturday I drove out to see it and except for the carpeting that needs a good cleaning it looked like it just came off the showroom floor. It was worth the premium price.
So.. the expected long search lasted one day and now I'm the proud owner of the Baja. Other than new struts it needs nothing, but all fluids will be changed just in case. Unfortunately it will never again be as clean as it was that day when I bought it (curse that dusty gravel road!)
Now to clean up and sell that old Tacoma....
