2003 Baja what TYPE of AWD? Active or what?

Post by asimmons04 »

I keep reading how Subaru has like 3 different types of awd and wanted to know what type our Bajas are. Mine is an 03. Do they have LSD in the rear and is it active or what, what power split, etc.

Not that important in normal driving but kindof important to know in sticky situations. Mine is an auto trans too. From what I've read even that makes a difference.

From Cars101.com ( http://www.cars101.com/subaru/baja/baja2003.html#specs )
Manual transmission: Center differential that splits and constantly varies power, usually 50/50 front to back
Automatic transmission: electronically controlled, mostly front but constantly varies front-to-back power split.
The automatic transmission is "Active AWD", as far as I know.

An LSD in the rear is not standard. Some did, but I'm not sure which trim/year combo includes an LSD.
My 03 Sport didn't have one.

According to Cars101.com, it should've: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/baja/baja ... l#features

Limited slip rear axle is listed in the standard features for the 2003 Baja Sport. I'm not saying you're wrong; I'm just passing along what Cars101 says.

All the Bajas have LSD in the back, for the manual you get a LSD in the center and open in the front. On the Auto you get LSD in the rear, open in the center and open in the front. No active center or rear diff for the Bajas.

The active stuff are for the other later Subaru models
