New Baja owner in Central WA

Hello All,

Introducing myself. I just picked up my new (to me) '05 Baja. Its Atlantic Blue Pearl with a MT. Not really any options or mods of note, other than the extra Subaru 6 CD changer and the bed extender.

What I'd like to do to in in the coming months is:

Engine block heater
Heated mirrors
Possibly make a bed cover or find a really good price on a canopy
Timing belt
Replace some of the button backlighting that is burned out

I've enjoyed browsing through many pages of posts so far.

This is my 4th Subaru, but by far my newest. I have formerly been dabbling in XT and XT6s, and recognize a few of the handles from the XT website.

Was wondering why there is no Pacific North West section in the regionals? I think there were at least a 1/2 dozen Bajas in my town before I brought mine in.

Yea, haeted mirrors is definitely on my "to-do list". Also, my back lighting also burned out, so I'm glad that it's not just my car or anything more than backlighting. You know, 'misery loves company'. Lol.

Is the engine block heater really necessary over there? I'm up in Maine, and there really isn't a need for it here.

Its a N/A with 104,000 miles. Or is it 100,000? Isn't the odometer off by like 4% in these things?

RE the engine heater: I park outside and during the winter it gets well below freezing and we usually have a week or two where it gets at least to 0 F at night, if not for a week or two straight. I'm not worried about it freezing up but would like to have it warm up quicker both for comfort and engine wear reasons. I would probably just use it on a timer, have it turn on a couple of hours before I was going to leave. Should be able to have warm air coming out the heater by the time I roll out the driveway.

I have been going as "his-n-hers xts" on the XT site, but there is no more "hers" anymore, I just havn't changed my handle.

I got a price on that one from the dealer, its in the paper accesorys catalog they have at the parts counter. I have seen what appears to be exactly the same thing on Amazon starting at $22.

Welcome! For under 50 bucks it is hard to go wrong with the engine block heater. I also park outside and its nice to have it start up without all the noises in the colder months. We have had a few below freezing mornings so far and I have had heat by the time I was out of the driveway. Just wish I had a place to plug in when I have to leave it outside at work overnight

I work for Cub Crafters ( www.cubcrafters.com ) and fly whatever cubs I can get my hands on. We have a Sport Cub that employees can rent at a really good rate, and I get a chance to fly Carbon Cubs on return to service flights, test flights and to some events. Its awesome

That is awesome! I have never flown a cub and do not have much experience with light sport aircraft but that looks like a ton of fun! What does it take to get a demo flight in a carbon cub or top cub?

Is the top cub an actual FAA type certified aircraft?

The Sport Cub and Carbon Cub are both LSA (Light Sport Aircraft) built under ASTM certification. The Top Cub is FAA certified, same standards as any other brand new GA aircraft. Much higher standards than the old Piper Super Cubs were certified to.

Demo rides for qualified people would be araigned through one of the dealers. Depending on what part of the country you are in, there may be one quite close to you.
