Do these have stock alarms?

Post by Bajabug »

I tried to search but only found something on an 06. My mom has a 2003 baja sport and when I lock the car it beeps but if I open the door from the inside the alarm dosen't go off. She want's an alarm stock or aftermarket. I have a late model BMW and it does the same type of thing when I lock it but its like a fake dummy alarm and no siren to go off. Im thinking that's the case unless something is broken because the panic button works and will go off if I hold the button.

As far as I know there are 2 security systems that were offered.
The first is the basic one which you have, mine also has this as well. Its basically remote lock, panic and I think it also has a bump sensor, if something hits the car hard.

The second will be your more typical alarm, I believe there is even a security light that blinks on the dash.

You should be able to tell if you can add the 'plug and play' version by removing the radio and heater surround. If to see connections wrapped up in the lower right area, they may be the alarm wires.

My '05 has the second type described above, and when I open the door from the inside, it doesn't go off either. I believe operating the inside door lever disables the alarm. As I think it should. (Or is she trying to keep you IN? )

What happens when you set the alarm and pull the outside handle?

The problem with the alarms is you have to have a subaru select monitor to configure them. If you add the shock sensor, for example it must be enabled. You can also choose several other options, such as have the system auto arm after the key is removed.

lol figured I can comment on this now, Last night while watching Cowboys and Aliens some Jerk Smashed out my driverside window and stole my GPS unit... The alarm didnt go off.. I have a 2003 BAJA. The punk also did a good job scratching the driverside door and cutting up the leather driver seat from all the glass. Good news, My insurance will cover it all :D
