Drivers seat won't move forward or back?

The drivers seat in my 2003 Baja has finally stopped moving forward and backwards. It was working off and on but has totally given up the ghost. All the other seat adjustments are working. Wouldn't be a big deal but my wife and I use different seat positions. I did replace the switch, but still no luck. I should have known because changing the switch was way to easy. Are there seperate motors for the forward and back and the other adjustments? Also, can anyone recommend a book or website that has instructions for repairs and or schematics. I also love old VWs and there use to be a wonderfull repair manual for that called the idiots guide. Something like that would be sweet. Thanks in advance.
