Diesel -- Baja

Post by bnther36 »

I know that there is little chance of the Baja ever coming back to market, but when I signed up for the 'boxerdiesel' updates, I made sure to put in the comments that I would love to see a new truck, this one based on the diesel. You know, if Subaru would market a small diesel truck with a MSRP starting @ 20K (instead of the 24K like the Baja) and give it a little ground clearance like the Forrester has, they might find sales to be a little more successful.

I love Subaru's and I love the Baja, but people just don't see it as a truck -- not like they did the Brat. I think this, and the fact that the starting price was so high, really killed a good vehicle. I really hope that they don't give up the concept of a small truck altogether. I think that the market could really use one; especially with a diesel and the 6-speed manual transmission.

I totally agree and am saddened to hear of the Baja discontinuation. I have noticed Honda putting out trucks that look a little like a baja on steroids "Ridgeline" also Nissan took a shot at the "Frontier". More and more trucks are resorting to baja-esque small bodies and square beds. Yet the baja still gets the critical reviews of being "to ugly to be a car and not efficient enough to be a truck" What happened to the El Camino Craz?!?! I suppose Baja's ride black and white opinions...you either like it or hate it.
The baja will forever be the most unique car on the road. Subaru needs to stop morphing WRX's into outbacks and focus on marketing the Baja.

oh and on a side note...the SVX needs a come back as well! :!: [smilie=upyeah.gif]
