So I'm getting closer to buying. I've been lurking. I test drove a 09 outback sport today. loved the car. i drove the 09 forester when it came out. nice suv, but that will be for her. i also like the baja, but haven't found one locally. what's the interior space like compared to the sport? i'm a stocky short guy. i normally drive a f250 superduty. i also drove a mazda 3 today. it didn't have enough room for my calf and knee. that's usually where i run into problems. my calves are 19.5" diameter. smaller cars i typically have to work the gas at an awkward angle. it's either that, or my knee cap is jammed into the console. not so with subaru. it would be nice to have a baja for commuting and carrying kayaks/bikes. if i really need a 4x4 truck, i still have the superduty, 3500 chevy, 2500 chevy, and the rock crawler jeep.

doesnt sound like you need another vehicle!!!!! i know theres a "Tall people and Baja's" thread around here that might be of interest to you, tho i see youre not tall, they would probably have the same problems with leg room. Get a Baja!!!

You've definately got more room in a Baja than a mazda 3. The dash is so huge in the Mazda 3 it takes up a ton of room. The Baja I think has very nice leg room and there should be plenty of room to move around. I don't know for sure but I think the inside of a 00-04 outback should have similar front interior so you may want to have a look. I had to drive 5 hours to get the Baja I wanted so they're worth searching for!
like thacrudd said find a 00-04 legacy or outback and the front seating area should be about the same. there is some head room differences but overall the feel is the same.
thanks, the comparison vehicles. i thought the outback might be similar, but wanted to be sure. i laughed at my local suby dealer. he wanted to give me $2000 for trade on my superduty. and full msrp on car. didnt want to give me the aca discount, or the $500 rebate either.

parking downtown is a pain in the arse. never can find a space on the street. their all long bed trucks, and will not fit in the garages. either to tall or wide. jeep will crawl over most of the other vehicles, but it's not a very practicle interstate vehicle. i do have the vrod, but need to carry more stuff. i can get my laptop and gear for a couple of days, but carrying a new computer to a client isn't easy. i'll be selling one or two of the trucks. i will not be hauling as much. there will not be a need for a backup.
