Premium Gas:(

Post by bajaman »

Would it be bad if I didn't use premium gas in my Baja? What would happen, damage to the engine? Just wondering if I should or shouldn't. I did read that it makes no difference between regular unleaded & premium... Anyway, I don't want to try it until i hear from the experts.

Yeah, I did some research on the subject before. From what I've read from multiple sites is that it doesn't matter except if the regular gas has adverse affects which you would be able to notice by the engine making knocking noises. BUT! I'm far from being an expert. hehe :D

If all you're going to do is commute or something like that where you don't use much boost, etc, then you'll usually be fine using less than the 91 octane listed in the manual. If you're going to jump on it, etc, you'd be safest using premium. The ECU should prevent you from grenading the motor, but it's not fool-proof.

I run 88 octane in mine regularly, and even running nearly full boost I have no issues and no timing is being pulled out by the ECU. OTOH, I live at high altitude and that makes a significant difference.
