Subaru Baja MPG thread

Folks, I thought I'd start a thread to log MPGs. I got a little app for my iPhone which will be helping me, but please feel free to log your MPGs as well. It might also be good to note what year, and engine.

also it might be helpful to add info like driving style, mods (only engine), city, highway, or mix. but i wouldnt kill the thread with too much info.

year/engine type/ miles on car: 03, non-turbo (n/a), 35k
gas: 87 regular
driving style: moderate to aggressive
mileage type (city/highway): mixed (40%/60%) bumper to bumper
mods of note:k&n panel filter (no real effect on mpg)
MPG: 22.9 (flogged)/ 24.5 (babied)

i have noted a max of 27mpg on long trips, i think my ecu needs reset to learn my driving style and effects of the K&N.

Aggressive Driving (lots of jackrabbit starts), averaging 22-26 MPG, combination of City/Hwy,
87 Octane gas. Couldn't be happier, beats a 4x4 F150 Pickup anyday.

gas: 88 octane gasohol (10% ethanol) --> Yes, 88 octane in a turbo
driving style: easy to moderate, tow a trailer or boat in the summer
mileage type (city/highway): 9.5 miles of town arterials & state highway. 40-50 mph w/few stops.

MPG (updated 3/15/09): ~21.5 normal/ 23+ freeway/ 20 winter.

Average of @ 24 mpg mixed driving on 89, best was 30.1 mpg highway when it was almost new and we took it to Florida.

MPG: 27.5 on average, but as high as 28.9 pretty regularly (as low as 25.7 when my husband drives)

year/engine type/miles on car: '06 Turbo AT with SportShift, 22K

gas: 91 octane (Sunoco sells it for about 10 cents less than the 93 available everywhere else, and considering I fill my tank at least every third day at about $50 per, it makes sense to cut costs where I can!

driving style: easy to moderate, only aggressive when I get behind a Grandpa!

mods of note: none, still stock everything

mileage type (city/highway): Most driving is 80-85% highway, with some around-town driving mixed in. Never bumper-to-bumper, because I won't put up with it!

MPG: 21-22 was my norm since buying my Baja in June '07, but I now get 24-25, after taking off the roof rack cross bars and keeping my cruise set at 65 on the highway. Either way, it's better than the 17-18 I was getting from my old clunker!

I do really like the fact that if I baby the Baja I can get decent mileage.

All time low mpg: 22. Ugh.
All time high mpg: 32. downhill-ish.

It's too bad Subaru took so long to get the diesel out. 50mpg would have been great
Throw in the AWD and a pickup bed and I'd be pretty much set for a long LONG time!

Just got back from a 1200-mile round trip from SE Alabama to Myrtle Beach, SC and back. Mileage ranged from 25.5 mpg (2-lane & 4-lane highway, 60~70 mpg average with A/C off) to 22.5 mpg (interstate with A/C on and speed ranging from 80~100 mph). Typical interstate driving at 70~80 mph I get 24.5 mpg. BTW, it's an '06 turbo, 5-speed, no mods (yet). Have occassionally used 87 octane instead of 91 with no noticable mileage difference (I baby the throttle to keep engine loads low w/87 in the tank).

Hi all, New guy to the board.

I just got a 2005 Baja Sport, automatic, 39,000 miles
I've been close to 26 MPG on a mix of commuting & suburban driving for my first 2 tanks.
I'm pretty happy coming from a Tacoma averaged 18~20.

Automatic
73K miles
Cheap tires (on the car when I bought it and just won't wear out)
No mods (except auxilliary trans oil cooler)
Mobile 1 (EP) oil & filter

Driving style; easy starts, brake early, keep within 5mph of limit on highway (I am convinced this is the single most cost effective mpg "mod" you can make).
Driving is usually 70-85% highway; 60-65mph
Winter: 25-26 mpg
Current: 27-29 mpg

Best: Only long trip so far was in winter through foothills at 60-70mph; 30.1 mpg (both ways)

Worst: 24mpg; pulling 1100 lb trailer with 1000 lb load on it for 1/4 of total distance between fillups

These results really surpassed my expectations. Coming from an F150 Supercrew 4x4, I've got to say this is fantastic. It's still a "funky" looking vehicle, but packs more utility than most SUV's out there. Who knew?

I just bought a 2005 5-speed Sport (non-turbo) with 88K miles. Sale price: $12,500. MPG was a big consideration for me, so I calculated it during my 115 mile test drive.
