Anyone do aftermarket alarm/autostart? I did.....

Post by sc00ter »

I had a Python 533 installed in my Baja. It already has the stock/factory alarm in it. Now I have the pleasure of both alarms fighting each other and being a major pain in the butt. The Subaru dealer told me that because the factory alarm is part of the ECU it cannot be shut-off. They suggested that I try unplugging the "keyless entry control module-part B" from behind the glove box and see if that works, since they have seen aftermarket alarm/autostart on Subaru's before (but DO NOT endoress it). I think that the Python is installed wrong and its suppose to have a overide chip installed (kinda like what installers use on chipped key cars) to let the ECU know another alarm is now being used. Needless to say my girl no longer trust the Subaru since it locked her out and shut down the ECU- costing us $240 for a roll-back to bring the car back to the shop that istalled the alarm and have them re-boot the ECU, only to be told by the cocky kid that he didnt install nothing wrong and the factory alarm was at fault- which I have never had a problem with. Apparently, everytime the door is locked from the drivers side, and that includes locking the door while in motion-it arms the factory alarm. The cocky kid suggest using BOTH?!? key fobs to make sure the factory alarm is turned to dis-arm! Thats the reason the cocky kid didnt activate the auto-lock-in-drive feature on the aftermarket alarm I believe. Why did I want autostart again? I must love the drama! Anyone have any insight or a simular problem? ANY help/ideas welcome!!! The owner of the stereo shop is out with the flu at the moment, and I dont want the cocky kid touching it anymore, so Im doing my own research in the meantime. Thanks again for any/all help.

Talked to the OWNER of the stereo shop today and this is what he said. There is no way to disconnect the factory alarm. As long as the front drivers door is not manually locked before shutting it no problems will arise as long as the factory alarm is dis-armed. IF the factory alarm does go off Im suppose to insert the key into the ignition and turn it on-off three quick times, unless I have the stock key fob with me, then I can just dis-arm it with that. Going to let him engauge the auto-lock on the doors and turn down the arm/unarmed chirp. Not really worth the trouble BUT Im going to try and live with it. If the aftermarket alarm proves to be to much of a hassle I will just have it removed. So if anyone has any tricks for this stupid/crazy set-up let me know. I just wish they would have told me all this stuff before hand.

Interesting. I was going to upgrade my alarm as well to something similar. I may have to look into this a little more...
