I'm interested in upgrading my roof rack system to a Yakima system. On other threads, people mention using a Yakima Low Rider system.
The Yakima Low Rider system that is mentioned isn't listed as compatible on Yakima's "does it fit" program: http://www.rackattack.com/rack-search.a ... ab+yakima#. It gives the Railgrab as the only option for the Baja.
Is this correct or does the Low Rider actually fit well? Which "claws" would be used for the low rider system?
Is there an advantage of the Low Rider over the Railgrab or vise versa?
Thanks all.

Re: Yakima Roof Racks
I'm not sure about the low rider system but if it isn't listed as fitting I would call Yakima to make sure or look elsewhere. I just bought a kayak yesterday and the guy recommended the Yakima HullRaiser Aero system so I purchased that from his as well. It seemed like it didn't fit right so I checked on Yakima's site and it wasn't listed as compatible. Needless to say i'm returning it and picking up a Thule system since they seem to have a lot more options for the Baja.

I've always been very happy with my Yakima racks on my '03............hauls canoe, rocket box, cargo rack, lumber, you name it easily. Also, I have found that round bars are more universally useful than rectangular ones for attaching things, etc. Just my $0.02 worth..........
Re: Yakima Roof Racks
My local Thule dealer told me that they couldn't help me with a rack system. They said the only thing they had that was compatible was a cargo basket. I think I'm going to stay safe and go with the Railgrab set from Yakima. They say it fits so I guess they'll take it back if it doesn't.
Thanks guys.

I'm trying to stay with the factory crossbar system. Don't want to spend the extra money. The problem that im having with the Yakima is they go on crooked and the kayak doesn't rest on the rear j rack. It's possible that this might be a problem with the Thule also.
Re: Yakima Roof Racks
I use Yak racks and they are not mounted crooked..........not sure what the issue is for you , but mine work fine with canoes/kayaks, whatever.......sure you have them attached properly? Just my observations........motojak wrote:I'm trying to stay with the factory crossbar system. Don't want to spend the extra money.
