Going After a Used Baja
Hey all,
I just sold my 04 WRX and now I REALLY REALLY want a Baja turbo in manual. I have found one out in Cincinnati, OH that I'm planning on driving out to see next Saturday *06-12-10*. Is there anything specific that I should look for on a Baja that I might over look coming from a WRX background?
This is the link to the one I"m going out to see. I know where is a bit of a stain in the backseat. But that is all I can tell from the pictures. http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.js ... f=national
Thanks for you help all

Re: Going After a Used Baja
Nothing comes to mind that would be Baja specific. Check it over as you would any other turbo'ed car. You might want to mention to the dealer that it does NOT have a leather interior. The seats are VINYL and cloth. The vinyl will tear at the seams with the cloth. (Leather was only available with automatics, not 5 speeds)
Good luck with your search / purchase.
You do realize that aftermarket parts for the Baja is more limited than for the Wrx don't you?

Re: Going After a Used Baja
Yeah I realize that. But I can still put on some go fast bits for the engine, Sway bars, Snugtop and a cat-back. *Yes i know Xcceleration is a rip off but they are the only ones i see that make a turbo back for us. I"m fairly good with a welder so i will probably fab up a custom rally/light bar at some point. I just got bored with the WRX. Lot of people mod WRX's Legacy's and Foresters. I want to be one of the few to hop up a Baja. PLus the Leather Interior did come on 5spds. My friend just sold his shortly before I could sell my WRX. They are even harder to find then the Red/Silver 5spd Baja I really wanted. *shrug*

Re: Going After a Used Baja
I based my "leather only available with auto's" on the cars101 website info.
At any rate, the vehicle you linked to does not have leather seats. The pics posted show cloth seats with vinyl bolsters. Lots of dealers make that mistake in their ads. Try to use it to your advantage in your price haggling!

Re: Going After a Used Baja
I talked to one of their sales reps on the phone today. He says they can't go any lower then 16,665. Which I think is a load of crap. Cause NADA lists it at best 15,200. I was going to offer 15,500 and not budge. Although there is one of those "ELUSIVE" white/silver Baja about another 600 miles away. LOL! Their reasoning is that they have put "X" amount of money into the car and that is why they are asking 16,995 for it. Sorry but that is a bit much for an 05 Baja w/stained rear seats. Plus it does not have heated seats, mirrors or windshield. The tonneau cover looks like it's on it's last legs. *want to put on a SnugTop anyhow* So we will see how it goes on Monday when I call the Boss of the dealership. I'm defiantly not gonna let him think he knows all the bees knees about that Baja. Between my wife and myself it will be our 5th Subaru. Wish me luck ya'll.

Re: Going After a Used Baja
I probably am the most recent person to buy a baja on this board, got mine in March. It is an 06 non turbo, completely mint inside and out and had 17,300 miles on it.
This car purchased from a Duvall Subaru in Ocala, Florida, I paid 17,500 for it.
Hope this info helps you.

You can get a good idea of the prices of Baja's using the "Baja Classifieds" link in the header - which really just leads to here:

Just got a 04 Baja Turbo Manual w 80K miles in good condition for around 13K - sunroof +
Sometimes its hard to find exactly what you're looking for... i didn't care about the color....
I just did not want one with 170K miles...
Good Luck - Take Care,
Dan

B.S. That's an accounting gimmick. They almost certainly took the truck in on a trade, 'sold' their new car for $x,xxx above their real price (likely above MSRP), but 'gave' the customer a huge trade-in 'allowance' for the Baja. So, on their books, they can claim they have whatever it is 'into' the Baja. In fact, they can almost certainly profit quite nicely at a price a couple to even several thousand dollars lower than what they're asking. Now, to be clear, it's 100% their business what they sell a car for, and how much money they do or don't make. I just hate that particular bogus excuse.Ahzlon wrote:...Their reasoning is that they have put "X" amount of money into the car and that is why they are asking 16,995 for it...
FWIW-- Ours had roughly 10k more miles on it when we bought it ...3? years ago now. '05 turbo. A/T rather than stick. We bought it from a car dealership, and we paid less than what your dealer is telling you is as low as they 'can' go. We live in very different parts of the country, but I don't see that one as any kind of deal at all. OTOH, hopefully that's truly the market price right now, just in case I had to get rid of mine really quick for some reason.

Good luck to you!
