Well, I cn only wish you luck....in my experience with my new ARE cap, that seal and the putty/gunk that comes with them as a new install are a big PITA. That gunk is also a big mess and if I ever removed the shell permanently would take some effort to remove....

My dealer took 3 times to install/remove it to get it to seal correctly without twisting and leaking or squeaking. Since they are supposed to be a really snug fit, when they got it to seal without leaking, then it squeaked like crazy (friction between shell and cab) in the cold weather. They finally got it down to a minimum, but I sure as hell am not removing it again! They advise installing a new seal gasket and putty whenever you remove it to ensure no leaking, etc.. These guys had supposedly done a bunch of them too, so I can't blame it on their inexperience or whatever.

The Baja is a very difficult vehicle to design/install a shell for and the only one (ARE) is by no means the perfect solution, but I still use it a lot for traveling long distances with stuff in the back and am overall happy with it. If I didn't care much about water leakage, I would be really tempted to install it without the cab gasket myself......

Good luck. If you are going to get a new gasket, I would jump on it quickly, as I was told ARE are going to discontinue the Baja shell and support, given the Baja has been discontinued....

Have you tried contacting A.R.E?

Only saying because when I purchased my cap a few years ago (and went through three caps and two different installers - long story) my local A.R.E. rep was very helpful via email (Seattle area)
