Anyone ever painted their side bed panels with SEM bumper paint? I painted the rear bumper on my Yugo with this stuff about 4 years ago and it seems to be holding up as far as fading is concerned. It's not like Krylon or Rustoleum. This stuff goes on great, sticks to plastic and holds it's shine.
It's probably made of the same plastic material (ABS) and was really faded out. It actually came from a parts car that had been sitting out in the weather for 15 years. Except I hate to say it but the plastic bumpers on Yugos are not as delecate as the plastic used on Subarus. The bed and rear center console are scratched all to hell on my Baja.
I picked up a couple of cans (Gloss black) today at the paint store and I'm planning on removing the side bed pieces (the pieces that overlap the body) and painting them. I believe once the plugs are removed, they are just held on with star screws and they should come right off. Not sure about the piece that surrounds the 3rd brake light.
I don't think painting the actual bed is a good idea since it's always getting scratched up.
It may take me a few days (or weeks) to get around to it but I'll post some pics once it's done.
I just wish I could find some of these pieces to paint just in case I screw them up. Not too many Bajas in junkyards since they only built 30,000 of them.

Yes, there are a couple plugs you take out with a flathead screwdriver and the screws come out with a torx (starhead) driver. The third brake light comes off by popping the 4 little screw covers located on the top with a flathead screwdriver and then taking out 4 of the same torx screws. I haven't ever thought of painting the plastic but I'd like to see how yours turns out. Good luck!jseabolt wrote:

Re: Painting bed panels
Ive found that "Mothers - Back to Black" works really well on restoring the black plastic pieces around our truck beds. Just another option instead of painting
Good Luck!
