How to maintain the hard plastic

Post by steven765 »

I'm wondering what if any success people have had cleaning and maintaining the roof rails and espcieally the hard plastic around the rear window/ bed liner?

The texture of the plastic is the biggest pain to keep wax from building up in, and now the plastic is dulling a bit.

Any thoughts from the community on maintaining these?

Plenty of choices out there. I've been using Mother's Back to Black and like it. It may take a few applications to stay looking good (tends to sort of dry up quickly on faded, dry plastic at first). But that's just me, I'd love to hear about "better" products from others, if they know of any???

I painted my bed rail trim on both of the Baja's I have owned with a product called "Black-It Out". It is made by Evercoat, and I got it in a spray can from the local Carquest. It is made especially for plastic trim, and you can get it in Satin of Matte. I chose Satin, and it has really held up well! I took all of the trim off, cleaned it well with an adhesive and wax remover, and the painted the trim. Hopefully this summer, I will paint the roof rails and the wiper cowl plastic. Here is a link to the mfg. website: http://www.evercoat.com/productDetail.aspx?pID=212 Hope this helps! Kurt
