Another Newbie...

Post by Trucklet »

Just wanted to say hi to the group as I am a new Baja owner. Well, it's not actually a "new Baja", but you understand. Have done quite a bit of reading on the site already and it has helped answer some of the basic questions. Love the online manuals, etc. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions later. Happy trails.

Near Lynchburg. Only had the truck a few days, but it's growing on me fast. Third Subaru for us, following a 96 LSI sedan and a 98 2.5GT Limited (recently departed due to a careless driver).

thats cool, i've had mine about a month and have only seen about three in that time period. all of which didn't give me the time of day. but the rarity is why i like it. Try the nasioc site it has a better turn around but still just as dead for the baja unfortunately. maybe some new blood will turn it around.

I'm hoping that once more Bajas are in the hands of 2nd owners, that this forum will grow. I think that for a lot of 1st owners the Baja is just the family car. We'll see.

Well, I'm hoping to use the versatility of the Baja to the max. I need the good MPG for the daily driving, the AWD for the (infrequent) snow since I live on a gravel road, the open bed for hauling trash, feed for the horses, etc, and the towing for the ocassional (small) batch of hay. Couldn't find a better compromise for all of these tasks than the Baja. Hope it works out as planned.

True, the stigma of the new car fades with the 2nd+ owner, so it’s more likely to see modification and thus out reach to other owners. However the lack of both sales figures and aftermarket support are the major hold up. As I stated in my thread I own a Honda element as well and I think it would be the same story over on that forum had the sales numbers not been as high. Both are a quirky car/truck just the element had more advertising and now customer support. Plus it hasn't been discountinued.

I'll be happy to do my part and rep the spot with a scoobytruck.com sticker but the link on the front page has a dead picture so I have no idea what it looks like.

thats about the same reasons i have, the ice here is nuts and my old impreza wagon did great so i'm hopeing the baja will do the same. plus weekend trips to the home improvement store. MPG i'm not worried about as i can't keep my foot out of it anyway. but i still get about 24mpg mixed.

Wow! 24mpg mixed with a heavy foot is impressive. Considering I'm used to about 15mpg from my '02 F150 Supercrew, 24 is excellent. I'm guessing you have NA not Turbo?

yea, NA. thats three fold. 1) i can't afford a turbo 2) i can't afford premium gas for the turbo 3) i couldn't afford the tickets +civil penlties that would insue from owning a turbo. add to that its a loaded 03, with 28k mi. that i spent less than 14k on.

don't get me wrong i don't romp on it all the time. a commute is a commute but if the opportunity arises i love hearing the 2.5 wind out from 3k to redline, nothing beats a boxer engine in sound quality even stock. i love it even though its big, ugly, inefficent, and takes forever.

I wouldn't have minded a Baja turbo but you just don't see Baja's much. The Subaru dealership we're next to hasn't even seen a Baja for a while so when I saw the NA Baja for sale at another car dealership, I jumped on it. lol
Sometimes the turbos just aren't available unless you want to ship it across a couple of states.
The original owner who bought this vehicle in California purchased every package for the thing so it's pretty loaded and it's still fun to drive even if it's not a turbo. :D I'm just glad the vehicle ended up for sale in Washington so I could get it!
