What is your favorite kind of wax to use?

I just got the new turtle ice wax

I believe that product from turtle wax is polish, not wax..

I use Megiuars for everything-paint cleaner(deep crystal step 1), clay bar, polish(deep crystal step 2), wax (gold class), tire shine, interior care....

I'm using the TurtleWax Ice as well. It is a real wax, goes on clear and doesn't leave any residue. They also have a clear polish. It really is great stuff and brings out the color of the finish. I always hated how it seemed that the Regatta Red was becoming dull shortly after I washed the car. With Ice, it stays nice and shiny for a while.

Meguiars NXT is real nice stuff, not cheap but made my black car shine unbelievably. It comes in wax or paste if you like to use a buffer.
I also really like NuShine for maintaining the shine and it's easy to apply.

Any wax will look good if the proper prep work is done first..

Wash
Clay
Polish with a swirl remover
Polish with a finishing polish
Protect with a sealent or wax

While compaines will confuse you with terms it brakes down to this.

Polish (chemicaly or machicaly abrasive) this offers NO PROTECTION

Wax is carnuba based . A warmer wetter look 2-3 monthes protection
Sealents are Polymer based. A crisp cleaner look very reflexive 3-6 monthes protection

Some are a little bit of both..

NXT Sealent
New Finish Sealent
Turtle wax ice Sealent
Gold class wax.. Wax

Thanks for the prep sequence. I'm not familiar with the term "clay". What does that mean?

detailing clay is a clay based product that you use to remove bonded contanamints from the paint. tar/rail dust/bugs

Clay is awesome. Make sure you always use enough of the lubricant spray no matter what brand. I got some funny looks from the mailman one day when I was claying the Baja-it's hard to explain clay to a real non-car person! We also clayed it when we went to the one show-we had spent the better part ofthe previous day detailing my father-in-laws ride. Poor neglected paint!! Anyway, spend a decent amount of time explaining it to people parked arund us (got there early to clay, polish & wax-guess it paid off, lol)...

Really wanna get into detailing? Check out http://www.showcargarage.com they even have a vid on the proper technique for washing. The guy in the vid is Mike Phillips-he knows what he's taling about. He has been flown in to detail cars before-usually high profile rides fixing to be on barrett-jackson or in a mag, etc. I was amazed to find out people would pay that much for a detailing-but when you see what can be done by a pro, wow.

BTW, although no one here mentioned this, it's spread on the net like a virus. Dawn is not a car wash! I cant believe how many times i read people recommending using it

I use Meguiars products i found them to work the best besides Zymbol products
