Added Smittybilt Eurorack roofrack...opinions? ( pics )

Post by hookupny »

I added this roofrack today and can't decide if I like it or not... got it from J.C. Whitney and installation was a breeze ( less than one hour ).
Anyone else have this rack? It is the shortest rack I could find at 39" x 44" and is about half the price of the Yakima or Thule.

Ed,

It all depends on what your expectations are. I personally would welcome the additional storage. From an esthetics point of view, it sits up off the roof too high. But that is me personally. What ever it is that YOU want, should matter!

Thanks ebbie... I re-mounted it this morning and dropped it about an inch. Found out I had to much overhang in front, moved the rail forward and that quieted it down some as well as made it stronger.

Also, I added 2 Baja badged fog lights to the rack and that changes the look somewhat... more to my liking. Check the site for the updated photos.

Hey Ed, looks very nice. What kind of extra windnoise does it give you??? I took the crossbows off of mine a long time ago, because whatever I did, I had lots of noise up there. However, I like the extra storage idea. Might have to look into doin somethin like that, especially when I go on vacation. I have a Mopar roof rack bag that ties to the roof rack, or would fit in the basket nice to keep luggage out of the weather. I never travel light, always loads of crap wherever I go!! Mike

Well Mike, let's put it this way...I can forget about opening the moonroof at any speed over 20 mph..
It is easy to remove tho and I don't use the moonroof much anyway...with the windows shut and the radio up, the noise is manageable.
It's a tradeoff, I like the look and when I need the storage, it is there.

Thats what I thought, it would be quite noisy. I think you would have to put a wind deflector up there the size of the ones on a semi truck to get rid of the noise. Mike
