05 Baja Turbo Stick - Sell or Donate?

Post by Mariner70 »

I retired my 2005 Baja Turbo, manual transmission, about two year ago as it was starting to nickel & dime me to death. (I have a 60-mile each way commute for work several days a week and have to have something reliable.)

It's still in the garage, and I'm not sure whether I should sell or just donate it. I know that as a turbo with a stick, it's the rarest version out there, and I figured there might be some interest here before I go ahead and donate it to charity.

It's going to be a bit of a project car if you buy it. Approximately 225,000mi on the original engine and turbocharger (I'm a marine engineer, so I did keep up on the maintenance.) Tailgate edge is dented but the plastic trim isn't cracked (backed into a concrete pillar while loading a sofa.) Tailgate latch and hood latch are both troublesome, right rear door is stiff - all three might be solved with proper lubrication.

The bolt on the alternator belt tensioner has broken twice; there may be an alignment issue with the drive sheave/damper (which I had to replace circa 2012 when the rubber tore away from the metal.)

And I smoked in it while driving for 17 years, so the interior is due for cleaning and detailing. A few lights on the pushbuttons are out, and there's a small tear in the driver's seat cushion. Windshield has been replaced twice, and probably needs it again due to putting (thanks to driving thru a sandstorm.)

The good points:

- Brakes fully replaced in 2020.
- Spare tire replaced at the same time (though it's a junkyard pull-out, as Subaru doesn't make that spare anymore and no one else ever did.)
- Tires and alternator replaced not long after. (Has one odd tire due to a sidewall puncture.)
- Forward wiring harness replaced circa 2019.

As I said, it'd be a project for someone if it doesn't go to scrap (and I'd honestly hate for the latter to happen.)

Any interest, or should I just go for the charity deduction?

Pics on request.

Hi,

Where is it located currently? What's the rust situation like? Any known accidents besides the concrete pillar?

^ What he said.

Something like this would make my turbo swap dreams much easier.

Also interested in where you're located.. I have a project I'd love to use a turbo base for, don't mind working with rough.

I'm interested in your car - I have one as well 2005, turbo manual. I need a front subframe, mine is rusted through. I'm in the midwest.
