Tailgate Nameplate Locations
Had the Baja repainted and as part of that the BAJA, SUBARU, and AWD nameplates got ripped off. Could I trouble one of you to take measurements of your tailgate so I can put them back on in the same spot?

Re: Tailgate Nameplate Locations
I can take some measurements likely today or tomorrow, unless someone gets to it first, but for now here's a couple of photos of the tailgate.

"BAJA" Badge:
45mm from left tip of "B" to left edge of tailgate
117mm from top-left corner of badge to bottom of tail light recess
Lines were drawn with a laser level, and looks like the highest points of each letter are all horizontal/parallel to the ground
(See photos)

"AWD" Badge:
42.5mm from right edge of badge to right edge of tailgate
143.7mm from bottom-right corner of badge to bottom of tail light recess

That should be everything you need to locate the badges, right? LMK if you need anything else.

Re: Tailgate Nameplate Locations
Wow. I couldn't have asked for better measurements and that should certainly be everything I need. That laser level looks like a nifty tool. I'll have to get one of those. I was going to make all of the edges with painters tape and expo marker but I like the lasers much better. Would you recommend the one you were using?
Love the license plate, btw.

Re: Tailgate Nameplate Locations
The laser level I'm using is probably around 20 years old by now, so it's long been discontinued. Plus, I'm sure newer models will have more features than this one, but I don't have any experience with any other models yet, so can't comment on or recommend any in particular. I placed mine on a camera tripod, which made it very easy to adjust the position, and especially the height.
Thanks! My brother actually thought of it. We shared the car 50/50 back in 2010, until I bought out his half about five years later. Originally we asked for "BAJAHAHA", but surprisingly it was already taken in Ontario. I actually like the current one more, now, so I'm glad we didn't get our first choice.

Re: Tailgate Nameplate Locations
One thing about the laser levels is that they are level relative to the earth, not to the tailgate, vehicle, or floor, so you may need to jack up one side to compensate.

Re: Tailgate Nameplate Locations
This is a great tip. I'll go look for one of those dual-axis levels. My friends give me guff about my Baja including all of the exaggerated ways they can say it. Must be a universal experience of Baja owners for another guy to have that plate.anarchy1024 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 6:58 am One thing about the laser levels is that they are level relative to the earth, not to the tailgate, vehicle, or floor, so you may need to jack up one side to compensate.

Re: Tailgate Nameplate Locations
Haha yeah, same... my old boss called it the "Bah-jah-yah-yah-hah-yah-jah-hah." Takes a bit of time giving the plate number to people, though: "B-A <pause> J-A <pause> another J-A <pause> and another J-A. Yes, that's 3 J-As. So B-A-J-A-J-A-J-A. No, the Js are pronounced like Hs because Spanish. No, it's a Japanese car. See, because it's supposedly inspired by this off-road race..."
Re: Tailgate Nameplate Locations
It turned out great. Bought a laser level and everything. Ordered another "SUBARU" nameplate set and it came stuck to a piece of paper for easy install. The "S" is like 5 mm too low, but I figure that's within tolerance. The cardboard paper must've been bent or something.
