Front CV axles

Post by Aetrox »

Hello:

First post as my modus operandi leans toward lurking. So I need a little assistance.

I have a 2005 Baja MT Turbo. I am in the process of replacing Struts, Outer Tie Rod Ends, Lower Control Arms, Brake Disks and Ball Joints. I am also installing a Half Inch Lift Spacers from rallitek. Not because I am in to lift kits, but because the previous owner had installed struts with a 2003 spec. These are a terrible choice. Totally inadequate on this car, actually bent the left lower control arm due to bottoming out on the freeway! So I an installing the half inch lift for a little extra clearance and hoping to provide a little insulation from rough roads. Once bitten twice shy and all that stuff.

So here is my problem, I ordered new axles from BAP, link attached below. Everything was going well until I went to install them. Turns out the splines that go in to the wheel bearing are too short? Been in communication with BAP, they are baffled (No word on an exchange yet, I am out of the 90 return window. It takes time to buy parts, what can I say I am not rich.) Is it possible that the previous owner had installed a steering knuckle from something else? Did I just get a wrong part? Has this happened to anyone else? What am I missing?

I am thinking that I just need to take one of the old axles to the parts store and set it on the counter and make sure that the new replacement is the same dimensions. If anyone has any advice, I am all ears as Ross Perot once said.

"A little dead here" I get it.

Update: So I got the replacement axles in from A1 auto. Look good, very beefy. Went out today to replace the new one I had installed with the NEW NEW one I just got. Well because nothing can ever go smoothly, the new one is stuck in the transmission. Time to go spend more money on tools. I am going to try a 'CV AXLE PULLER' and see how that does. If anyone is interested, I will post more updates. Also the final word from BAP, 'Your screwed'. Not only that they can not even tell me what kind of car this axle is meant to fit into.
