NEWBIE QUESTION!

Post by Agent Smith »

I have 500 miles on my new 05 M/T turbo and I notice in the lower gears, mostly 2nd and 3rd, when I'm at about 1/4 to 1/2 throttle the truck hesitates a little. Is this turbo lag because it's a little jerky or kinda bucks slightly? I really just feel it in the gas petal. When I hit it full throttle it's not as bad. The car was delivered from Penn State to Trenton NJ and I'm wondering if the delivery guy beat on this thing or this is a natural feeling when it's breaking in? Do any of you guys remember your breakin period? I just feel the acceleration should be smoother when I'm on the gas. Just comparing to my girlfriends A/T Suby WRX.

I'm prolly just paranoid because it's still new. 8)

thanks.

Don't know if it's turbo lag...

I've got the turbo and a manual. Most of the time I shift up pretty easily and don't notice any lag. If I try to "get on it" with rpms under 3000, I sometimes hit a lag before the car responds. The car did this the day I drove it off the lot and to this day with 3000 miles on it.

I get a little jerk in my car (manual non turbo) when I let off the gas a tiny bit. Its very touchy to throttle input... going from 20-25% throttle can be felt where in my brat of my old GL you could move your foot a bit and not even feel it.

I guess thats how fuel injection excels over carbs... more exact fuel delivery.

Now that I think about it, I do get a slight jerk to mine when I am on and off the gas a slight amount. I have an 03 Classic with auto trans. It is just drivetrain slop. My 93 Cherokee would do this also, and if this is what you are feeling, I would say its a normal condition. Lots if stuff spinnin around, and the cv joints, when you have 8 of them, are bound to have some play in them. Its not as bad as a fullsize truck, though. They used to be really bad bangin around. It feels a little better with 1200 miles on it but man, it does feel wierd.
every gear from 2000 to 3000 rpms.
What mods can I do to change the feeling?
Bigger injectors maybe? Is it lacking fuel
Do you think a different clutch?

I had problems with this at first going from an RX7. If you want to be ready to take on anyone at anytime, you just have to make sure you don't get caught in that range! I've actually changed my driving habits drastically (from jack-rabbit starts to blue-hair cruising). This is partly from the #@#(!@!!! price of gas lately but also due to driving a much nicer car than what I had before! I need to give the people standing on the side of the road a bit more gawking time as I drive by!!!
