Suggestions for tires

Hello, I just joined the group.
I’ve been looking at pictures and reading on here for a little while now. I just bought a 2003 AWD Sport with 90,000 miles. Getting the 120k mike maintenance & timing belt replacement done next week to be safe. I saw a dark colored Baja somewhere in the 50+ pages of pictures that looked great and I think I saw the owner comment that it didn’t have a lift, just larger tires.

I’m looking for suggestions.

What’s the biggest tire I can get and leave it stock? Wanting something meatier. Like an A/T tire. What do you all recommend?

Added a roof basket and removed the mud flaps today.
Looking forward to additional adds.

Stock, especially an 03, can't get much bigger. Some 235s may fit, some will rub. 235/60r16s just used to rub on my Baja, now that the tread is worn down they hardly do anymore. FYI actual tread width varies between brands and models for the same size tire. The worse I've seen (back when I worked in a shop) was 235/75r15 for S10s, rangers, and dakotas: 3" difference in tread width from the cheap crappy ones to the good ATs.

Some people go taller rather than wider, 215/65R16 or even 205/70r16 in the effort to find a more common AT tire size.

Since you want to leave it stock otherwise, is this more looks than function?

I debated getting a lift, but I don’t think I’m going to right now. Was going to see if I could get any additional height out of new tires. I’ve looked around quite a bit, but no one locally knows what size A/T tire I need that will give me some more height without rubbing.
