was the cover purchased with the baja and installed by the factory/dealer? If so, I have heard stories of people doing the exact same thing, over at http://www.nasioc.com, as you described and the dealer replacing the cover under warranty. You were just taking the cover on and off as normal right? If so, that dealer is pulling your leg and trying not to do what they are suposed to be doing and making you happy with in the guide lines.

I have heard of people getting the soft cover replaced under warrantee also. I wish I had pushed for a new one when we picked up ours (used), as it was already torn at the time. I have been thinking of making one that attaches differently-or has reinforced corners-myself to replace it-since the asking price for a new one is rideculous. Also considering a snuglid, or bugging durakon to release the 05 turbo version in the aftermarket...

Hard bed cover
In my 2005 Baja Dealer Brochure, at the bottom of page 4, in reference to the hard bed cover it says:
"... Bed cover be available as an accessory for Baja Sport and Baja Turbo following introduction of Baja Turbo with Leather Package."
Let's keep bugging our Corporate Subaru and our dealers for this. While you're at it, complain about the lack of marketing and say how much you like your Baja!

The Original Bed Cover
Hello everyone. Been a long while since I posted here. I decided to ask the local dealer about the original bed cover using the number provided in the this posting. Found out that this is the real deal but it is only the top cover. you still need to get locks and there are two parts that go in the back of the cover by the bars. After some researching with the parts guy. Turns out that you can get all the parts ordered. Don't know if Subaru will ship the parts. The parts guy said that if the part numbers are there you should be able to order them. The price though is pretty steep. The cover is around $800 dollars. The locks are around $100 dollars. The other two parts are the pricey ones. one side costs around $100 dollars (drivers side) but the passenger side costs $200. We were trying to figure out why the price was different for the passenger side but got stuck on this. We estimated that I would probably spend around $1200-$1300 in parts. I would not mind trying but since it would be more of an experiment. I don't think I want to take the risk at this time. maybe later when I have more time. I hope this helps everyone out. If some does take the challenge. Let us know how it goes.
Later,
In today's world we have a crisis on due to dependency on oil. The cure to this crisis. The almighty Baja.........
