Re: Oil smell
The lower engine cover will keep small leaks from making it to the floor.
Could be the early indication of a leak or just spilled oil from the last oil change.

Re: Oil smell
It could be a blown innner CV boot. They have a tendency to spray grease on exhaust components... easy to check.
Hope this helps...

Re: Oil smell
Plus one on checking the CV Boot. Also, if you catch a split boot early enough you can just add grease and a new boot.
The OEM CV's are high quality. I have replaced a few CV's on Subarus where the rebuilt units were
from the git go.

How hard are they to replace? Can you buy replacements from Subaru? Thanks Ronnietomato_88 wrote:Plus one on checking the CV Boot. Also, if you catch a split boot early enough you can just add grease and a new boot.

Re: Oil smell
They are fairly easy to replace. Depending on transmission and year they differ slightly. I saw a good how to thread a while back. I will try to find it and post a link.
In short, can be done in an afternoon.
