Hot ignition key

Yesterday when I got home and shut off the engine, the ignition key was HOT! Maybe we old-timers with sensitive and thin skin feel the heat more, but is this common? :?:

This reminds me of the mystery water droplets coming from the vent hitting you in the face I still haven't solved it lol
