Two dirt bikes!

What are you guys doing about the extra weight with bikes? Seems like the car would behave really squirrely with 2 bikes. I just sold my KTM (light dirt bike), and now I have DR650 (much heavier dirt bike). I have been looking for coil spacers to temporarily solve the issue while hauling. Maybe I am worrying about nothing... Thoughts?

Community service tire cleanup even last week. 30 normalish size tires (Many still on rims), 2 tractor tires, 4 semi tires, most filled with water. Probably as much poundage from water as rubber. Don't mind the trailer rake, the ball mount needs to be flipped. Still drove decently too.

I have a few more pictures of large things in the bed mostly auto related. My minimum requirement for purchasing a baja was, turbo, and able to fit a motorcycle in the bed, it does . Full size sport bike 88 fzr1000, it has a longer than modern sport bike wheel base at 57.8" and an over all length of 87". Rear tire is an 18" instead of the usual 17" a 450lb dry 496lb wet specs... baja rear sag wasn't bad or worrying at all. It sat overnight and threw the whole next work day before unloading. A zx14 has a 58.3 wb and a hyabusa is 58.5 I wouldn't see any issues loading one of them in either.

Picked up a new bike over the past weekend...... at 59.2" wheel base with a 21" front tire and 18" rear it fit nicely, sort of. Baja is lowered on legacy bilstiens with my Baja springs on them.

Drove over 300 miles to get back home with it and she drove just fine and still got 21 MPG

Not sure why but my phone didn't let me load this. Something about determining file size. Anyway here's the sag I got with mine stock Springs stock shocks. Anyway how the he'll do you guys load your bikes with the wood, straight like that and unload them? Have any of you guys hauling dirt bikes try loading them sideways or is it just not enough room.

Im also really thinking of going with the overload rear spring and SLIGHTLY softer shocks. The rear is definitely harder riding than the front as is. I can't find the one pic with both compressors in the bed. I swapped the compressor tops.

Front and rear a seats from a full leather heated seat baja. I need the back bolster. Sadly just before I bought this baja I missed out by 1 day on buying an identical one except FULLY, w bed cover and only 20,000 miles.

You might want to get the overload rear spring (I'm curious what you're planning to use too) and not go with a softer shock (not that there are many options) to keep from bottoming out under loads. Just enjoy that it's made to truck and not like most of the new trucks that you put 3 2x4s in the bed and it sags inches.

I loaded mine from a dirt mound near the dealer.....worked out beautifully. Unloading actually was easier. I just tilted it back on the board with the brakes locked up. Used it like a tilt ramp, worked way better than expected too.

Mine was close to, if not a touch more than, 7ft long from end to end so sideways wasn't happening either....but I did try.

So I got a question for ya.


What have you hauled in or with your Baja?


I've been examining dimensions and I think it is possible that with a proper metal ramp system I might be able to transport motorcycles.

Looks like the bed-to-edge of tailgage length is something like 59" and our current bikes have wheelbases of 60 and 62 inches (with wet weights below 600 lbs), so if I had a metal ramp that stuck out another foot or so past the bed I think most/all of the weight would sit on the bed and tailgate.

What do you guys think?

My bike weighs 249 lbs and I'm looking for a metal C-channel to replace the wood I used below.

The suspension seems uneven and bouncy but not too bad for being 212,000 miles on the original parts.
I want to upgrade the suspension, or am I crazy to invest with her mileage?

Should I be getting the "Overload Springs"...or is there something better?



I wouldn't mind getting a second 249 lbs bike back there



As for loading her...
In the picture above, I had a foldable aluminum ramp to the right on her tailgate. Once the front tire got past her tailgate seam...I turned into the...braced (won't go left or right) plank to get my front tire up and on. Then I steered the front tire down the center while the rear stayed on the edge of the aluminum ramp. I put the kickstand down and loosely tied off the front (L&R). Now I could hop the rear tire up/over on and in line with the front tire and finish tying her off front and center (rear). I tied the rear wheel to the plank, but that's overkill because the bike didn't budge.
