HELP WITH BAJA TUNE
Hello I am new the Subaru family and I need help. I am dissappointed with the performance of my stock Baja turbo. I have done some reading on other forums about adding an sti TD05 turbo and intercooler. Has anyone on here done this successfully? What power gains have you achieved. i guess my biggest concern is the tuning I've heard open source is the way to go but I have no knowledge on any of it....please help

Re: HELP WITH BAJA TUNE
Tons of history of these things getting upgrades. STi performance is easy to reach. Nasioc has some good info but it has been taken over by snot nose shit kids that ruined it. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... ?t=1990995
My turbo is getting allot of upgrades and will be tuned soon. You need an open source tuner since the Cobb does not work on Bajas. Where do you live?

I live in ohio near the Pa border. I have actually been chatting with jaxscuby on NASIOC. I wonder if anyone that's just done the basic td05 and tmic with a cat less up pipe upgrade has uploaded their map for the Baja. I don't want extreme power jut what the sti puts out and I'd stop there.

Re: HELP WITH BAJA TUNE
You could go with an STi VF39 turbo, STi intercooler, and why not sprinkle in some cheap HP like a Perrin inlet hose, and Invidia downpipe. Then swap to an STi ECU and tune the thing with a Cobb access port.
Re: HELP WITH BAJA TUNE
If i did go that route and swap the ecu with an sti ecu would i still have to tune it since all i want is the power the stock sti puts out? Also I failed to mention that i have a Baja turbo AT model will the sti ecu still work since it isnt manual?Acro2pilot wrote:You could go with an STi VF39 turbo, STi intercooler, and why not sprinkle in some cheap HP like a Perrin inlet hose, and Invidia downpipe. Re: HELP WITH BAJA TUNE
Good point, of all the tunes I have seen nobody ever mentions what tranny they have. I have never owned an auto until now and am not sure of the dependencies between ECU and TCU regarding the STI ECU. I was thinking about your issue of being able to tune on site. It can be a bit daunting to find a local tuner for our trucks, I have the cable and software and I know the basics like how to modify codes, injector factors and such but the turbo dynamics are a bit out of my comfort zone so I went with a local tuner that is super capable.
Assuming the ECU is compatible with the 4EAT the Cobb could maximize your results from the available hardware and let you tune on site, a stock STi load will probably be safe but might run short on HP and not be optimal, and when we are talking $$ per HP if the goal is STi power ( and we have to remember that is different from STi performance due to weight, gearing etc..) maybe think about what you can do for the same money because you can get STi performance PLUS for the same money as STi performance.
For example on Amazon you can get a TD05 20G turbo for about the cost of a VF39(Tomiokiracing sells the same turbo for $200 less there than their own website), throw in headers, up-pipe, downpipe, inlet, STi intercooler, intake, pump etc and your within a couple of bucks of the cost of a VF39 with the same. However your power potential is another 75~100Hp. Hence your performance can match in STi by applying more HP to the extra weight and disadvantages.
I should have mine tuned within a week to two and I can post results along with my hardware choices and you can use that as a guide of what you can get.
Here is the thread on my project, my goal may be very different than yours, I want mine to spool stupid low and crush in torque, peak HP is not a concern.

Re: HELP WITH BAJA TUNE
I would love a nice balance of hp and torque. maybe like 350hp 380torque that would be awesome in the baja.
