Need Advice and Help for Lifting

Post by Kriss45.acp »

I am looking to raise my 2003 baja sport about 4". Originally I was going to try six but that seems like it would require to much modification. As far as the type of lift goes I'm looking at doing either a 2" body with 2" suspension or a 1" body with 3" on suspension. I talked to Scott from SJR and he told me he could custom make a kit. That sounds great considering I can't find anything anywhere else but it's also a little scary. I'm new to this whole thing. Can anyone verify the quality of his parts? Has anyone tried him before? It feels to good to be true. I also know his kits require some modification to fit. How extensive is this and who should I be getting to do it? I have a lot of questions and few answers. Any help is appreciated. I'm in Albuquerque NM. If anyone reading this is also in town and has a lifted baja I'd love to here from you where and how you got yours done. Thanks

I can't vouch for any info on how to lift, but I can say that I've run across a lot of people who have used his stuff on another Subaru board (Ultimatesubaru.org) and have had no problems in the least. Seems very knowledgeable and has been building them for years.

Check out this thread of mine on the kit; viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2230

I did a 4in kit on that truck and have a new kit coming from him for my Baja turbo that replaced the Baja sport. I have done several Subaru lifts from scratch (check out www.Subarubrat.com ) and using one of SJr's kits saves me weeks of time making a custom one. The quality of his parts is excellent and they are made far tougher than they need to be. I would suggest his kits without any hesitation. The one thing to remember is that this isn't like a skyjacker or rancho lift where every little bit is included and there are instructions, these are the major parts for the lift. You will need to modify the steering shaft by cutting it and welding an extension over it to make it longer, you need to make a bracket for the center driveshaft bearing, and you need to sort out your linkage for the shifter. These are not difficult tasks but you must be able to weld or get someone who can to help with that part.

Also, perhaps a better way of explaining the lift is that it is neither a strict body lift or a suspension lift like you would have on say a Jeep, it is more of a hybrid that has elements of both. If you ask him to make you the same kit that he made for my Baja sport with the 4 piece rear end you will be good.
