Baja showing it's age...

Post by jseabolt »

Although my 2003 Baja has only 73K miles on it and is garage kept when not driven, it's developing some issues that I guess just comes with age.

Rip/crack in driver's seat bolster. I've tried to repair this about three times but the vinyl repair stuff just won't hold up. Other than maybe making a vinyl patch and glueing over the ripped section with RTV or something.

But the two main things that irritate me are noises. After owning a 1994 Jeep Wrangler one thing that attracted me to this Baja was how quite it was.

Maybe three years ago mine developed this wind noise on the driver's side. It seems to be somewhere around the mirror. Anybody know of a fix for that? It's got to be related to the weatherstripping since this window is rolled down more than the others.

Latest noise. Now there is a whistling sound coming from the driver's side vent if that vent is closed. I can change the frequency of the noise by going from completely closed to barely cracked open. The only way to get rid of this annoying sound is to crack it open just enough (say 5% open) to where the noise goes away. Anybody had that problem?

I went to West Marine and bought a vinyl repair kit for boat seats. Most Baja's I see have the seat cracks. It works well but only looks OK.
