Baja 2.5 For H-6 swap?

Post by codioos »

Being the NA 2.5 is a dog, has anyone heard of or considered an H-6 swap? I suppose the transmission and transaxle would need to be swapped out as well. Same goes for the computer ECU.

That is my next project after I finish this EA81 upgrade and overhaul for my Brat. The H6 from the Tribeca is totally what should have come in the truck. I will be using an aftermarket ECU for better tuning and I don't have to worry about emissions, if you have to worry about emissions then your looking at adapting over the ECU/harness as well. It mates up to the 5mt and other subaru trannys too, and is only a tiny bit longer than the EJ25 so it fits in the Baja.

I agree, the H6 should have been an option for the Baja. I've long considered doing a swap but I'm usure if the payoff will be worth the headache. Back when I first bought this thing I should have put more thought into the swap and instead I did a complete tuneup and reseal. The reason I'm bringing this up now is because there's an H6 with drivetrain+ECU for sale locally. I can just see the wiring and computer stuff being a PITA.

BIGGGG JOB!
I saw it done on the forum, the owner had to do a of wiring for it to work, you will need a lot more than just engine and ECU, you will need a donor car with full front harness, instrument....

That is not necessarily the case. You *COULD* do what that fellow did mixing the harnesses and such or you can go with a self contained ECU which is very easy to implement. The only down side to this method is that you will not have OBDII which means if you live in an area with emissions checks you will have challenges getting it through that inspection. If you don't have that concern then it takes about a day to do all the wiring and initial calibration.
I am using the canem unit that works with most any Bosch or Delco sensors, injectors etc. You just define what you have and load a base map, then tune from there. The wiring is really simple, power and ignition to the ECU followed by all your basic inputs (02 sensors, MAP, temps, throttle position, crank position, etc.) then all your basic outputs (ignition, injectors, idle air control etc.). The job is MUCH easier than adapting a harness, you just run the loom and install each unit's connector and you have a nice custom made harness in short order. You don't have to jack around with identifying wires and tracing through harnesses, injector 2 runs to injector 2, MAP wires run to the MAP, etc. wrap it all up and make it look pretty when done.

The unit I have for my Baja H6 conversion is this one; http://www.lloydspecialistdevelopments. ... mmable-ecu
