Smaller tire, stupid problem

Post by Levipeterson »

So I put bigger rims on my 05 Baja and had to use a smaller tire.... They look great man, but now my speedo is off and tips on how I can make it better. I'm going to be switching between oem size tires for the winter and I want my meter to be as close as possible with both sets of tires. Thanks for the help guys

Never heard of a way to "adjust" your speedo. It was calibrated to work with the oem size tire and rim combo. Any size difference in overall diameter will definitely affect the accuracy. Larger diameter than oem wheels will make it read slower, while smaller than oem will make it read faster than you are actually traveling...

Best bet is to use a combo that us close to the original diameter.

You can run a larger diameter wheel with a lower profile tire to maintain your factory settings.

Or, just use your GPS as a speedo like I do! Subies in general often have speedo issues, many are off 2-3 mph from the factory (mine was too). So, just to be sure, use a GPS to set your speedo for whatever wheel/tire combo you are using and compensate for the difference after that, if you don't want to look at your GPS all the time......
