where does this bolt belong?

Post by Ferroplasm »

Can anyone tell me where this bolt belongs? I found it loose in the bed of my '06 Baja after I bought it.

That is a latch for a bed cover....If you don't have the bed covert to go with it you do not need it

Thanks for the info. I do not have any sort of bed cover, though apparently a previous owner did. I've been looking for one, but am having no luck at all.

mine came with a bed cover and no lock device at all. the cover bounces on speed bumps-they're designed to catch bro-dozers and heavy Euro luxobarges so they're pretty big here. 5 mph and enough WHOOP to lift the heavy cover about a half inch.

needless to say I'm not storing anything of value in the back when parking at home either

Yep! That's the pin that the lock on the factory cover grabs onto. Definitely hold onto that!

Is looking for the factory cover a lost cause?

That's a loaded question.

Used covers show up from time to time on craigslist, on this forum, on the NASIOC forum, and on the Subaru Baja Owners Club Facebook page. There was a factory turbo hard cover on this forum and craigslist a couple of months ago for $350-425.

Personally, I do a searchtempest.com search every single day using "subaru baja" as a search to look for any interesting Baja items. I'm also looking for a parts car because parts are getting harder and harder to find.

You can still pick up a new hard cover from Snuglid, Penda or OzzBros. There's a cap still available from ARE. There are some threads on here and on NASIOC about making your own hard cover. Some people have gone the softcover route and had a snap on type cover made. Some people have salvaged the hard piece of the factory soft cover and had a new soft piece made to connect to it in various fabrics. Baja people are very creative!

Not sure what part of the country you live in, but there are some areas (like here in Upstate NY) where Baja owners are pretty active about meeting up. It's a great way to see what people have put on their vehicles. We had a meet a couple of weeks ago with 11 Bajas and saw all kinds of solutions.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do!!

I saw the photos of the ARE cap on their site but no listing it's actual sale. No vendors listed show it on any of their sites either. Sounds like a huge PITA to put on and remove-I wanted something I could unclamp and lift off with two people in under 10 minutes when I need to haul somethig like a tall bookshelf arises.

I found an actual listing for the Snuglid but at over $1100 it behooves me to figure out how to lock the factory hard cover I have :)
