My 05 Baja came with the factory 2-hatch hard bed cover.
rear latching/lock assembly is completely missing except for the spring loaded exterior lock cover. Absolutely no hardware left on the inside. No latch, no lock cylinder, nothing. I want to be able to secure the bed so it stays closed and I can park downtown with stuff in the bed and know it'll be safe back there.
I have no idea what's supposed to be in place for the locking mechanism or how it's to work, much less anything resembling part numbers.
anyone have some good photos of what's supposed to be going on back there? and maybe some part numbers?
thanks in advance.

Patience, my son, patience.
Although we all love this forum, you can sometimes see the tumbleweeds blow by before an answer arrives.
There is a thread in the Sale section that dates back many years where someone is selling that very hard top. In that thread are photos of the underside of the top that shows the locking mechanisms for front and rear. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1966&hilit=for+sale+factory+cover. That is different than the pics I have, but I can't find that same thread right now.
There is this thread that shows the parts diagram for the top. Dealers laugh when you call and ask for these parts, but maybe you will have some luck that others before you have not! viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1169&hilit=turbo+cover+hard+cover
I printed out and brought some pictures of the locks from a sale thread (different than the one I posted....I can't find this one anymore) to a locksmith a few weeks ago. He made a lock for the rear portion of the cover. His solution is not fool proof and I don't know how much I recommend it as a long term fix, but it's getting the job done for now and that's a huge improvement. He did not duplicate the entire mechanism. He put a new cylinder in, added some washers, and fashioned an arm that would catch the pin that sticks up. It needs a lot of pressure put on it, in order for the arm to turn properly and clear that funny top on the pin. It also must be locked at all times to remove the key from the cylinder. That's pretty meh to me.
Can't help you with the front because it's being tied off and not used. There is a cargo box in that section of the Baja that prevents use of that part of the cover.
Now if you'd like some photos/diagrams/measurements of what I have, I'll be happy to share and we can all benefit and get my money's worth out of the morning spent with the locksmith. It is a simple solution, but a lot of trial and error went into getting it to fit.

Re: photos and/or part numbers of hard cover lock assembly?
it'll probably end up that most of us who don't have the locks will be doing a custom solution from the ground up.
Any info you have that'll keep us from reinventing the wheel will be of great help

Re: photos and/or part numbers of hard cover lock assembly?
Got the pics from my home computer, but I don't have diagrams for you yet. Here is the finished product.
New Lock cylinder with the factory lock hood.

Bottom of lock cylinder with a couple of nuts to hold it, the newly cut arm, and screw holding it all together. You can see I have a truck box which blocks the front opening, so I'm just tying that part of the cover off.

The arm rests against that bump on the cover when in the unlocked position.

The arm was bent and notched until it hit the pin correctly.

I'll try to take it apart this weekend and diagram it out. Maybe I can climb in and take a pic of it underneath in the locked position. This arrangement gets the job done with locking the cover, but I don't think it's a long-term solution. Having watched him do this, though, at least we have a starting product to tweak.

Re: photos and/or part numbers of hard cover lock assembly?
These are pics that I was able to find from someone that sold their cover when it was new. Everything underneath is fresh and intact. I wish I could find this thread again and give credit to the photographer, so I apologize in advance.

It would be great to recreate this exactly and if anyone has the knowledge/skill to do so, please share. We turbo hardcover owners would be eternally grateful!

there's a decent hot rod community around here that fabs a lot of parts for custom car issues. And a few motorcycle enthusiast groups trying to keep 80's bikes alive that the dealerships pretty much abandon after 5 years. I'll start shopping the images around and see what I can scare up.
