Bad vibration at 2k rpm...

Post by sfeather11 »

Hey all,
Wanted to get pick some brains and get some input on this. I've been getting a really bad vibration in the whole car between 2000 and 2200 rpm. It happens ONLY when I am in gear and and driving. When in neutral or park and I rev the motor, it seems smooth all the way through the rev band, even wen I hold it around 2100. Today I was experimenting a bit and had the car in D, with the e-brake on, while stomping on the brakes, I revved to 2100 and could kinda feel the vibe...

Now, I know some of the mods I've done have prob contributed to this. It is an '03 with '05 springs and 1" blocks all the way around. I've also added the hard rallitek 4eat trans mount less than a year ago. Oh, and my L front inboard CV boot has been torn for well over a year (I uh, haven't got to it yet :) )

At this point I'm thinking I may have a bad motor mount, since it always happens at the same speed and only when under load. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? I'll prob post this over on NASIOC also for more input...

Peace! [smilie=666.gif]

Is it at the same RPM in every gear or only in top gear at speed?

If just in top gear it could be a tire separation or thrown wheel weight.

Same rpm in any gear. After posting last night, I did some research online and am now convinced it's coming from my Lfront inner CV joint. I've had a ripped boot for well over a year now. I actually forgot about it until last week when I put the car on ramps to look around. [smilie=boggl3y3dummy-ani.gif] I'm going to start there and see if it goes away...

Any suggestions on where to get a good axle? I've read the Chinese ones are junk, but am not sure where to get a non-chinese one...

So I ended up paying $199 to the dealer for a Subie reman + $40 core deposit. Got to put it on last night and took it for a spin after. Success! The vibration was much much better. I was intrigued that it wasnt completely gone, but my ear/butt may be over-sensitive to it by now... :) Now to fix the headlight, side view mirror and head gasket leak!

Peace!
