Clutch Replacement Mileage

Post by Colby »

I'm curious as to if any of you with manual transmissions have replaced your clutch and at what millage you had to do so? I have an 03 NA with just over 80k miles on it and my clutch is starting to slip under hard acceleration in 3rd through 5th gears. 80k seems low to me for the clutch to go on an engine with so little power. Granted I am the third owner and I do not know how the car was driven before I purchased it although the man I bought it from did not seem like the kind of person who would abuse it. In my research it seems like Legacies and Foresters equipped with the 2.5 NA engine and manual transmission make it to at least 100k before needing a clutch even if driven hard.

That seems a bit early based on the other Subarus I have had. I had mine replaced under warranty at 38,000 miles and now have about 121,000 so that's around the same mileage as yours. Mine is a turbo model though. I have also been pretty hard on my clutch. I can tell mine is getting worn based on pedal position but no signs of slippage at this point. Like you said, you have no idea of knowing the history before you got it. I would think the new one should last a bit longer.
