So I was thinking of modding my 03 stock shifter the other day by removing the shifter gate for straight up/down shifting. I soon realized that this would require cutting rather than just unbolting a few shifter parts. I then had a "duh" moment and thought "hey, Subaru already has the sport shift, I wonder if I could swap a new shifter in and accomplish the same thing?"
I live in an area with a lot of hills and find that the 4eat could be a little better for me in some situations. I find myself manually downshifting a lot, just to hold it in gear on long up/downhills etc. I like to throw it in neutral a lot at long stop lights or extremely long downhills. I also have some nerve damage in my right arm which makes the sideways shift from 3rd to 2nd a little awkward...
Anyways, so has anyone done a shifter swap or know what would be involved? Obviously the shifter and bezel would need to be changed, and I'm assuming the tcu. I've read elsewhere that possibly the valve body in the trans may need to be swapped, but am not sure. Anyone have thoughts or insights??
Peace!
