Cheap MPG fix!!!

Post by bajachilloopa »

So my '05 non-turbo AT was running a bit rough, had a rough idle, rough acceleration, tranny stuck in 2nd up tall hills, only maxed 25mpg or less, ran high RPMs, blah blah blah. Figured I just needed to give hundreds of dollars to the dealership.
I was showing a check engine light, small emissions leak.
Decided I'd clean up my intake piping, found out some of the ends of the piping were wore out a bit and didn't make a good seal.
I wrapped the male ends with 3 rounds of electrical tape, since it's not messy to remove, put everything back together, and now it's running WAAAY better. Idle is smooth, acceleration is smooth, engine is quieter,
RPMs are lower (2750@70mph, as opposed to 3200@70 before), getting up to 28 or more MPG...
Basically it's running like a subaru should!
Give this a try guys and gals, tell me what ya think!
Any comments/questions/"hey don't do that"'s are cool with me!

My 05 is beginning to do the same thing. Can you post some pictures of where you taped it up?
